Thank God for the Photographer at Baylor

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

I was so tired the day after I had Giada. It seemed like there was person after person in my room, nurses, hearing tests, people pricking my baby’s heel.  A woman came in and I just couldn’t wrap my head around what she was talking about. Finally I realized she wanted to takepictures. I told her no, I didnlt think we needed them but then she said well, you can order them later. I am so glad that she took them! Having pictures of Giada the first day she was here was the best thing ever. Way to go Baylor!

6 pounds 11 ounces

Giada Julia Josephine Palmer, our third granddaughter and Amy and Brad’s first child, came into the world with dark hair (hair!) and a darling little cry.  She and Amy and Brad are getting to know one another.  All is well and we are grateful.

The Last Pregnancy Picture!

Last picture before going to Baylor to be induced

Last picture before going to Baylor to be induced

Brad and I had our “Last Supper” as a free-wheeling married couple without kids at Local in Deep Ellum before we headed to Baylor to get induced.  Foie gras, fried green beans with garlic sauce, seared Ahi tuna and the forbidden glass of white wine. We snapped this in the street outside of the restaurant on our way out.

Our day had been crazy and hectic with lots of people working in the house: Shannon working on the never ending scrapbook project, Rebecca holding the Map I.T. fort down, Julio Rios and crew working to get all of the house renovation projects we started when we thought our due date was November 3rd finished before the baby arrived. Plumbers re-running hot and cold water to the upstairs bathroom.  Johanna and her mom trying to clean the drywall dust off of everything. It was all too much for a nervous couple about to add a baby into the mix.

Getting out together for the last time before our life changing event was happy and sad and very, very surreal.

Hooked up to the Monitors

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

I’m at Baylor all hooked up to monitors and about to be induced. Hopefully we’ll have a baby by tomorrow! (I can’t believe this is really happening!)

Let’s Renovate the House Right Before We Give Birth!

Monday, October 19th, 2009

img_0092img_0085So I have been on REAL bedrest since last week. I guess real is still not REAL as we THOUGHT we were having the baby November 3rd so we started like 5 house projects, including re rerunning all the plumbing to the upstairs bathroom, finally tiling it, cutting a hole in the den wall to put in new doors to the back yard and cutting a hole in the living room wall for an eventual TV since we had to move the plumbing there anyway.
Consequently I have had 3 plumbers and 3 workers in the house all week plus Rebecca who is taking over my clients and another girls working the computer helping me to finish a never ending project that has been going on for over 4 years. Not very restful but I have been wearing pajamas for a week which has been nice. J

Blood Pressure Problems

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Things have been crazy here. 3 weeks ago when I went to the OBGYN my blood pressure was really high – a new one for me as my blood pressure is usually so low they take it twice to make sure they got it right. It was diagnosed as pre eclampsia and I was told to “take it easy” Which of course I didn’t really – It’s hard! Last week my Doctor was like, seriously you are going to have a stroke and sent me to the neonatologist.

I get there and had to wait a while. When they called me I had to haul my pregnant body out of a low slung leather chair, sling my heavy leather purse with my 2 huge books in it over my shoulder, waddle after a fast moving nurse and hoist myself up on a high examining table. Of course the first thing they do is take my blood pressure  Which is SKY high. They call my Doctor and she has them put me in the hospital immediately for observation. Luckily it took a bit to get her on the phone so they did the sonogram in the meantime and my 6 ½ lbs baby turned into an 8lb baby – but everything  is good with her. She is “breathing” well, moving well and all ready to  come out. When they monitored me in the hospital my blood pressure was as low as it usually is which was weird as it has been constantly high for weeks.

Nothing like scaring your blood pressure into submission with the threat of imminent induced delivery.
