Still No Teeth… But She’s a Great Pooper!

May 29, 2010 at 3:47 pm , by amy

Geezzz… she is drooling all day and putting everything in her mouth and chowing down – no sign of teeth. I keep looking for the red bumps but no cigar. We fed her meat for the first time yesterday, Chicken and Rice and Chicken Noodle. She seems to like it as much as veggies, no big difference.

Last night I was feeding her and she got this concentrated look on her face and turned as red as a beet. I grabbed brad and was like, “Look! She is pooping!” We both laughed and then she did it again and we laughed harder.

Well, the joke was on us.

After I finished feeding her we took her out of her seat and I was like, “Wow! You have carrots all over you! How did you get so may carrots on you?” Needless to say it wasn’t carrots.  I have never seen this child poop so much! All over her, her chair, and consequently all over me since I had picked her up all ready. Brad’s and my mouths just dropped. We were in awe. I took Giada off to get cleaned up and I could hear Brad gagging in the kitchen as he tried to fit the whole chair in the dishwasher. Giada was happy a lark and blew a bunch of raspberries. Hmmm…

This Baby Rules: A Guest Post

May 20, 2010 at 2:26 pm , by amy

Giada Rocks HatsIt has been so long since this blog has been updated that I felt I, Rebecca, had to take action. The fact is, Giada is rad and is just getting radder, and SOMEONE needs to say something about it.

She is a very smiley baby, rarely out of temper unless you do something nuts like get out a pneumatic hammer and start hammering away. Why someone would do this to a sweet little pumpkin like this, I don’t know, but it does happen in this house of constant renovations and remodeling. She doesn’t even give you trouble if you try to feed her a pureed concoction of green beans, parsnips, and peaches (again, why?) even though her distaste for it was written all over her poor face.

She loves to do situps, which she accomplishes by grasping your fingers and pulling up. Each time she seems astonished by her ability to come to a seated position. It won’t be long before she’s doing it all by herself.

Another charming feature of this endlessly charming little creature is the tuft of hair on top of  her head that is growing longer and more Kewpie-dollish by the day. Fortunately, her mom has not subjected her to the obvious hairstyling solution of a garish bow on top of her head. See instead the hat at right, which she is obviously rocking.

In short, this baby rocks the party.

Johanna Takes Care of Me

I'm Always Happy to See Mommy
I’m Always Happy to See Mommy

Johanna takes care of me at our house sometimes during the week. I am always happy to see her. She plays with me, reads me stories and make sure I eat lots of food. She has a magic touch where she can make me go to sleep while on my back in her arms. We have a good situation because my Mom is here working while Johanna takes care of me. Her office is just outside the bedroom where I nap and get changed so I see her a lot during the day.

We Need To Get This Baby In Her Own Room

May 12, 2010 at 1:16 am , by amy

We still have not put Giada in her crib. She is still in the bassinet near our bed, but she is going to have to go up to her room soon. I think mostly it’s me not wanting her to be so far away upstairs but I’m just going to have to get over it. Giada had her 6-month checkup. Shots were much easier this time (at least for me since I knew what to expect.) Giada is 16 lbs and I can’t remember how long but long 97th % I think. She is super happy and laughing. She is still not sitting unsupported but we’re working on it. She likes her Jumperoo for about 10 minutes and rolls over easily both ways. Still not so hot on the tummy time. I definitely think she will walk before she crawls, but I guess we’ll see. Part of the problem is that our floors are all hardwood and we have this cat with a peeing problem (nerve damage from being born) so sometimes she makes it to the litter box sometimes not. As a result, we don’t have a lot of rugs. We bought those foam things but they look like crap because the cats claw them to death. Giada is eating veggies and likes them. We haven’t done meat yet.

Giada’s Favorite Food

Yum! Feet!

Yum! Feet!

Things are going well here. Giada had her 6-month checkup and she is doing well.  16 ½ lbs. Never cries and sleeps pretty well. Still late to bed but I think that is more our fault. She is big on walks so we get out as much as possible, the weather hasn’t turned too hot here yet. She is not so sure about baths but we try to bathe her every night as part of the going to sleep ritual. She sure is a lot of fun right now, laughing and smiling. She loves her daddy. She is eating sweet potatoes, carrots, peas broccoli, and pears. Very messy but fun.

Buying Baby Food at Central Market

April 24, 2010 at 5:13 pm , by amy

2010-brian-at-central-market-7Oh Central Market, how we love you! Before Giada was born Central Market was Brad’s and my Friday night date. We had a great time walking around the store with a glass of wine and trying out all the free samples.

We would get to legitimately spend money because we were buying groceries. It was great! Now we bring Giada and she does really well. Most of the time she conks out in the Baby Bjorn. I think all the colors and sounds make her tired. On this trip we  brought her to buy her first baby food. We got Ella’s organic carrots in a pouch.

Zero Tummy Time for Giada (Bad Mom!)

April 7, 2010 at 1:19 am , by amy

Poor Giada gets about zero tummy time and not a ton of time just by herself on her back as we are usually holding her. She will be in the pack ‘n’ play for a bit on her back but not enough room there to really roll around too much. I need to get some blankets out for the area by my computer so she can move around on the floor. Giada tasted peas for the first time yesterday and I’m not sure she knew what to make of it. I think we’ll try the squash tomorrow and see what happens.
